F.A.Q
Who is Vicinity Studio and what do you specialise in?
Vicinity Studio is a full‑service video content agency and production studio with over 10 years of experience in live‑action video production and animation, and more than 2,700+ happy clients across Singapore and Malaysia.
We specialise in cinematic, story‑led video content for brands, government agencies, non‑profits and communities across Southeast Asia, from one‑off hero films to long‑term content partnerships.
What is your purpose?
Our purpose is to empower youths to excel by unlocking their creative potential.
This mindset shapes the way we tell stories, build our teams, and collaborate with partners across every video project.
How much of the work is done in‑house vs subcontracted?
Vicinity is built as a one‑stop creative ecosystem. Most of your project is handled in‑house, including:
-
Creative strategy and ideation
-
Scriptwriting and storyboarding
-
Producing and project management
-
Direction, cinematography and on‑set crew
-
Editing, colour grading, motion graphics and animation
-
Design, illustration and photography
We only bring in trusted specialist partners when a project calls for very specific skills or equipment (e.g. niche VFX, specialised stunts). Keeping the core work in‑house gives you tighter creative control, consistent quality, more reliable timelines, and better cost transparency.
What types of videos do you produce?
We produce a wide range of cinematic content, including:
- TV Commercials (TVCs) and Digital Advertising Videos – high-impact brand and product campaigns for online and broadcast platforms.
- Corporate and Brand Storytelling Films – authentic narratives that communicate your company’s purpose, culture and vision.
- Social Media Videos and Always-On Content Campaigns – short-form, platform-optimised videos for LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
- Event Coverage, Conference Videos and Live Streaming – professional multi-camera production for corporate events, launches and webinars.
- Documentary and Long-Form Content Production – cinematic storytelling for thought leadership, education and brand heritage.
- Government, Public Sector and Community Films – content designed for outreach, awareness and public communications.
- Charity and Non-Profit Video Production – emotive storytelling that drives engagement, donations and volunteer participation.
- Animated Explainer Videos (2D / 3D Motion Graphics) – concise, visually engaging explainers for complex products, services or ideas.
- Photography and Visual Content Creation – brand, lifestyle and event photography that complements your video campaigns.
This breadth lets us support you from a single flagship film all the way to a full content ecosystem across channels.
Where are you based and where can you film?
We are headquartered in Singapore, with a second office in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). From these hubs, we regularly produce work across Singapore, Malaysia, and the wider Southeast Asia region.
We can support:
-
Local shoots in Singapore or Malaysia
-
Cross‑border productions within Southeast Asia
-
Remote production workflows if your team is overseas
What is your production process like?
Our workflow is designed to feel structured and professional but still personal and collaborative:
-
Discovery & briefing – We understand your objectives, audience, brand, and success metrics.
-
Concept & script – We propose creative directions, narrative structure and scripts aligned to your brand.
-
Pre‑production – Storyboards, casting, locations, schedules, risk assessments and logistics.
-
Production – On‑set directing, cinematography, sound, lighting and performance coaching.
-
Post‑production – Editing, motion graphics, animation, sound design and colour grading.
-
Review & refinement – Structured review rounds with clear feedback channels.
-
Delivery & rollout – Final masters optimised for web, broadcast, social, events and internal use.
Throughout, you’ll have a dedicated producer as your main point of contact, backed by a full in‑house team.
What kind of budgets do you work with? Are you “premium” or “affordable”?
We position ourselves as a premium, cinematic studio with smart, scalable pricing:
-
For lean social content or smaller projects, we design efficient setups to keep costs low without compromising professionalism.
-
For high‑impact campaigns, we scale up crew, equipment and creative to deliver big‑screen quality while still being more cost‑effective than many large agencies.
Because so much is handled in‑house, we can balance premium production standards with competitive pricing, instead of charging for multiple layers of middle‑men.
If you share a ballpark budget and goals, we’ll recommend the most impactful way to use it.
How long does a video project usually take?
Timelines depend on the complexity of the brief, but as a guide:
-
Simple social or interview video: around 2–4 weeks
-
Standard corporate or brand film: around 4–8 weeks
-
Larger campaigns or multi‑location shoots: 8–12+ weeks
We’re also experienced in working with tight deadlines and have delivered projects quickly for corporate and government events when needed, as long as we align expectations and scope upfront.
Do you work with agencies or only directly with brands?
Both.
-
Brands & organisations – We often act as your end‑to‑end video partner, from strategy and concept to final delivery.
-
Agencies & consultancies – We collaborate as your production arm, integrating into broader campaigns and helping bring your creative ideas to life.
Either way, we’re comfortable working with complex stakeholder structures, from internal comms teams to multiple external partners.
How many rounds of changes are included?
For most projects, we include:
-
1 round of structural changes (story, sequence, messaging)
-
1–2 rounds of refinement (timing, graphics, titles, colour, audio)
We clarify the exact number of review rounds in each quotation so expectations are clear. If you need additional changes beyond that, we’re happy to accommodate them with a transparent change‑order process.
Who owns the footage and final video?
By default:
-
You own the final exported video(s) for the agreed usage (e.g. online, internal, broadcast), as stated in the contract.
-
Underlying project files and raw footage are typically retained by Vicinity Studio but can be licensed or handed over upon request, subject to a separate fee and any third‑party restrictions (e.g. music, stock footage, talent usage).
We’ll always explain usage rights clearly in your proposal so you know exactly what you can do with the content.
Do you offer ongoing content support or retainers?
Yes. Many clients engage us on an ongoing basis to:
-
Produce regular social content, thought‑leadership series, or product videos
-
Cover recurring events and conferences
-
Refresh or localise existing content for new markets
Retainers help you secure priority schedule, more predictable costs, and a team that deeply understands your brand and stakeholders.
How do you keep projects organised when there are many stakeholders?
We know corporate, government and institutional projects often involve multiple departments and approvals. We manage this through:
-
A dedicated producer as your single point of contact
-
Clear timelines and milestones with agreed feedback windows
-
Shared documents for scripts, storyboards, and comments
-
Optional online review platforms for time‑coded feedback
This keeps large, multi‑party projects moving smoothly while preserving a personal, boutique service feel.
Are you insured and union‑compliant?
Yes. Vicinity Studio is unionised under the Creative Media and Publishing Union (CMPU) in Singapore, and we operate with standard production insurance and on‑set safety practices appropriate to each project. Safety, crew welfare, and responsible working conditions are part of how we maintain consistent quality and long‑term relationships with our team and clients.
How do we get started?
You can request a free quote or start a conversation with us via:
-
Our website contact / quotation form
-
Email
-
Phone (Singapore & Malaysia lines available)
Share as much as you can about your goals, timelines, audience and budget range. From there, we’ll propose an approach that balances premium cinematic quality, large‑scale capability, and the personal attention of a boutique studio.
Do you provide scriptwriting or creative ideation if we don’t have a concept yet?
Yes. Many clients come to us with only a business objective or a rough idea.
We can start from a blank page and handle:
-
Creative direction and campaign ideas
-
Story angles and key messages
-
Scriptwriting and interview question design
-
Storyboards and visual treatment
We’ll begin with a short discovery call to understand your goals, audience and channels, then propose one or more concepts at different budget levels so you can choose what feels right before we move into production.
What equipment do you use?
We use professional cinema‑ and broadcast‑grade equipment, scaled to what your project actually needs, such as:
-
High‑quality digital cinema / mirrorless camera systems
-
A range of lenses for different looks
-
Professional lighting and grip equipment
-
Clear, broadcast‑quality audio recording setups
-
Stabilisation tools (tripods, sliders, gimbals, dollies, etc.)
-
Drones or specialised rigs where appropriate and permitted
For projects that require specific camera systems or specialist kit, we’ll spec and source them for your shoot. Our goal is always the same: cinematic, consistent images and sound while being mindful of budget and logistics.
Can you make edits or repurpose footage for social media?
Absolutely – this is one of the most common requests.
From one main shoot, we can create:
-
Short vertical social media videos (Reels, TikToks, Shorts)
-
Square or vertical cut‑downs of a longer brand or corporate video
-
Teaser clips, trailers and quote cards
-
Subtitled versions for silent autoplay in feeds
-
Different edits for different audiences or platforms
We can also re‑edit existing footage (including videos shot by your team or other vendors) to refresh content for new campaigns.
Do you work with talent (actors, voiceovers, influencers)?
Yes. We regularly handle end‑to‑end talent management, including:
-
Casting and shortlisting professional actors, presenters and models
-
Sourcing real people (customers, staff, beneficiaries) when authenticity matters
-
Arranging voice‑over artists in multiple languages and accents
-
Recommending and coordinating influencers or KOLs where suitable
-
Managing contracts, releases and usage rights (platforms, territories, duration)
You can be as hands‑on or hands‑off as you like – from reviewing casting options to letting us run with a creative brief.
Can you help with paid distribution or campaign rollout?
Yes. Beyond producing the video, we can support your end‑to‑end campaign through Vicinity Agency – our in‑house marketing agency.
Working together, Vicinity Studio + Vicinity Agency can:
-
Develop your campaign and media strategy (objectives, audiences, channels, funnel)
-
Plan how video fits into your broader campaign (hero, always‑on, retargeting, etc.)
-
Create all the video and creative assets needed for ads and organic content
-
Set up and manage paid campaigns across platforms (e.g. Meta, Google, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok)
-
Produce multiple cut‑downs, formats and hooks for testing and optimisation
-
Track performance and share reports and insights to guide future content
If you already have an in‑house marketing team or external media agency, we’re also happy to:
-
Provide platform‑ready video assets and
-
Collaborate with them on specs, formats and creative variations
So whether you want us to handle just the video, or video + full campaign rollout through Vicinity Agency, we can plug in at the level that suits you best.
What if we need to film overseas or outside Southeast Asia?
That’s possible.
For projects outside Singapore and Malaysia, we typically:
-
Send a lean key team (director / producer) to lead on‑ground
-
Or work with vetted local production partners while we direct and manage everything remotely
-
Keep all creative development and post‑production in‑house, so your brand and story stay consistent
We’ll recommend the most cost‑effective approach based on your location, schedule and expectations for scale.
What are your payment terms and cancellation policy?
Exact terms will always be stated in your quotation and service agreement, but as a general guide:
Payment terms
-
A deposit is payable before we begin pre‑production.
-
The remaining fees are usually split into milestones (for example: before the shoot and upon final delivery).
-
For retainers or long‑term engagements, we can structure monthly or quarterly billing.
Cancellation or termination
If a confirmed project is cancelled or terminated:
-
Outstanding fees and third‑party costs remain payable.
-
Materials (complete or not) will be delivered to the Client.
-
Cancellation 48–24 hours before the service date: 50% of the total agreed project fee is payable.
-
Cancellation within 24 hours of the service date or during services: 100% of the total agreed project fee is payable.
If you suspect dates may need to move, let us know as early as possible – in many cases we can reschedule rather than cancel, and we’ll always keep any additional costs transparent.
