Vicinity Gives Back – Inspiring Others with Creativity & Possibility

Since 2017, our core ethos has always revolved around community, connectivity, and creativity that inspires others. As 2025 comes to a close, we look back on the programmes we shared with Singaporean youths and reflect on our purpose in supporting them to explore, create, and grow.

Why We Seek To Inspire Others

Vicinity hosts young participants as part of Ties of Love Singapore's Dream Big, Dream On initiative for at-risk youths.

Carol Tham, Head of Operations at Vicinity, moderates a workshop in collaboration with Ties of Love Singapore.

A popular quote that comes to mind is:

“With great power, comes with great responsibility.”

Which just so happens to reflect what we’ve always stood by as a production company that has grown into an all-in-one creative agency – amplifying human stories that are purpose-driven, able to create meaningful impact across communities, from global to grassroots, and, in turn, inspire others along the way.

The reason is simple: we care.

We’re driven by the belief that human stories can spark real social change, and that belief feels especially important when it comes to aspiring and at-risk Singaporean youths – young people we hope to empower by unlocking their creative potential and giving them the confidence to explore what’s possible.

Through masterclasses, mentorship, and career programmes, we aim to provide skills, exposure, and opportunities that help shape futures, guiding participants through a shared journey of exploration, growth, and self-discovery.

Moderated by Carol Tham, Vicinity’s Head of Operations, our collaboration with Ties of Love – a grassroots, youth-led organisation supporting single parents and families in Singapore – took place as part of their two-day Dream Big, Dream On (DBDO) programme.

Designed to empower children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their aspirations and believe in their own potential, the workshop introduced participants to the ins and outs of the production industry through expert sharing and collaborative activities. Sessions were structured around the three core stages of content creation: pre-production, production, and post-production.

Each segment was covered by our talented team, including:

  • Stacy Shamini, Head of Writers & Director
  • Dos Ocampo, Head of Producers
  • Jaslyn Wong, Videographer
  • Giovanna Anne Martinez, Motion Graphics Designer
  • And more!

From writing and directing to producing and motion graphics, the workshop combined practical insights with hands-on learning. Participants were also introduced to real production equipment through show-and-tell sessions, giving them a clearer picture of what happens behind the camera. By the end of the session, participants had the opportunity to produce their own videos, guided closely by Vicinity’s facilitators.

More than learning technical skills, we hope the experience left them feeling seen, supported, and encouraged to explore creative paths they may not have considered before.

We also had the privilege of supporting Children’s Cancer Foundation Singapore through All Ways, Always, a collaborative programme facilitated by their art and music therapists from the Specialist Clinic, alongside their Befrienders from Netflix.

Centred on a stop-motion short film, the programme explored themes of grief and loss through a creative process that prioritised meaning over perfection. Handmade characters, hand-painted backdrops, gentle melodies, and character jingles became vessels for stories that were often too tender for spoken words.

Within this space, Vicinity’s role was to support participants with the foundations of video editing – helping them understand how their frames, movements, and sequences could come together to tell a story. Rather than focusing on technical polish, the emphasis remained on expression, care, and allowing creativity to unfold at each participant’s own pace.

This workshop was facilitated by:

  • Junny Yap, Business Developer
  • Kevin Ng, Business Development Lead
  • Stacy Shamini, Head of Writers & Director
  • Aman John, Gaffer & Camera Operator

Creativity with A Purpose

Handmade blue blooms by CCF’s beneficiaries, alongside a booklet written and illustrated by The Woke Salaryman – quiet reminders that creativity, when shared with care, carries meaning far beyond the moment.

At Vicinity, creativity has never been just about producing content.

It’s about using our craft to open doors, create moments of possibility, and give people – especially young people – the confidence to believe in themselves.

These workshops remind us why we do what we do. They ground us. They challenge us to slow down, listen, and show up with intention.

And it’s them who reaffirm that creativity, when shared generously, has the power to uplift communities in ways that go far beyond screens and campaigns. From the people we work with to the communities we serve, our journey has never been a solo one.

So, as we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: to use creativity as a force for good, to stand alongside communities, and to keep creating spaces where stories are heard, potential is unlocked, and possibilities feel within reach.

This is not just about what we create – but who we create with, and who we create for.
