National Gallery Singapore – Plein Air Painting A Legacy in Southeast Asia

For this art practice video commissioned by NGS, our team crafted a visually rich, documentary-style narrative tracing the evolution of plein air painting from Europe to Southeast Asia. Using a distinctive watercolor and scrapbook-inspired animation style, the video weaves together archival artworks, historical imagery, and textured motion graphics, guided by an evocative voiceover that frames plein air painting as both an artistic method and a reflection of social change.

Through carefully paced storytelling and layered visuals, the film explores how the practice was adapted and redefined in Vietnam—shifting from the pursuit of light and modernity to a powerful tool for cultural identity and resistance. The result is an engaging and poetic educational piece that brings art history to life while highlighting the enduring legacy of plein air painting in the region.
